Wolfsburg's captain now shares the all-time Bundesliga lead for goals scored from outside the penalty area—and could soon stand alone at the top.

Maximilian Arnold has etched his name into Bundesliga history after scoring his 21st long-range goal, equaling the German top-flight record held by Diego Ribas and Marco Reus.

The 30-year-old Wolfsburg captain struck early in the 2-2 draw against Mainz, finding the net with a trademark thunderbolt in the third minute. It was yet another reminder of Arnold's exceptional ability to score from distance—a skill that has become his signature over the years.

Arnold joins elite company. Diego Ribas, the charismatic Brazilian playmaker, left his mark in Germany with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, while Reus has been a long-standing icon for Borussia Dortmund after starting his Bundesliga journey at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Arnold’s journey is particularly special. He’s been a one-club man, joining Wolfsburg in 2009 as a teenager and working his way through the youth ranks to become captain and one of the club’s most consistent performers. He's now made 373 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Despite a disappointing season for Wolfsburg, who are stuck in mid-table and on a six-match winless run, Arnold’s milestone is a silver lining. With time still on his side, he is widely expected to take sole possession of the Bundesliga’s all-time record for goals scored from outside the box in the near future.

The club and fans alike are proud of his loyalty and longevity—and now, he’s got history on his side too.
