Lionel Messi has sparked playful speculation that he might be a secret Tottenham fan after liking Cristian Romero’s Instagram post celebrating Spurs' Europa League triumph over Manchester United.
Romero, who captained Tottenham to a 1-0 win in the Europa League final in Bilbao, shared an image of the club’s victory parade with the caption: “London is white. The only way to get my name engraved in this club was like this. We deserved this. Thank you all for the love as always!”
Among the many who liked the post was Messi, his Argentina teammate and fellow 2022 World Cup winner. The like didn’t go unnoticed, especially by fans who recall that Messi once reportedly recommended Barcelona sign Romero in 2021—before the defender ultimately joined Spurs from Atalanta.
Romero’s latest silverware adds to a growing trophy cabinet, including his World Cup win, while Messi continues his MLS campaign with Inter Miami. He’ll next feature in Thursday’s clash with Montreal Impact.
