Former Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn reflects on his departure from the club, acknowledging the challenges while defending his and Hasan Salihamidžić's contributions.

Nearly 15 months after being dismissed as the CEO of Bayern Munich, Oliver Kahn has spoken openly about the reasons behind his departure from the German football giant. Kahn was dealt a "heavy blow" when he was barred from attending Bayern's crucial title-deciding match against Köln in the final round of the 2022/23 season.

Now that some time has passed, Kahn speaks about the situation with a sense of acceptance, noting that it's all part of the football business. "This is part of the job. Hasan Salihamidžić and I knew exactly what we were doing, and we gave everything for this club. Changes at the management level, especially when the chairman of the board changes, inevitably lead to further changes at lower levels. That's all I have to say about my past in Bayern's management," Kahn stated.

Addressing the criticism that he and Salihamidžić allowed for high wages, Kahn provided a detailed explanation of the situation. "Salaries were always negotiated and approved by the financial director and the supervisory board. The club's wage structure remained competitive with other top European clubs. That was the goal, nothing more," Kahn clarified.

Looking ahead, Kahn hinted at a return to football management, suggesting that he will soon be taking on a leadership role at another major European club.
