Barcelona are closing in on contract extensions for key midfielders Pedri and Gavi, with both set to remain central to the club's future under Hansi Flick.
Barcelona are making significant progress in securing new contracts for midfield stars Pedri and Gavi, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. The two young talents, who are pivotal to the Catalan club’s present and future, are reportedly close to signing extensions as talks advance.
Pedri and Gavi, now back to full fitness, have played critical roles this season despite earlier injury setbacks. Pedri, who recovered from an injury sustained at Euro 2024, has returned to form and remains an essential figure for Barcelona. Meanwhile, Gavi made his comeback from a year-long ACL injury, recently starting against Celta Vigo in a bittersweet game where Barcelona squandered a two-goal lead.
Both midfielders have captained the team this season, underlining their importance in Hansi Flick’s plans. Barcelona president Joan Laporta had previously confirmed ongoing talks to tie the pair to long-term deals, and Romano now reports that negotiations are firmly "on track."
Pedri and Gavi’s current contracts run until 2026, but Barcelona are eager to reward their contributions with fresh terms. Pedri joined from Las Palmas in 2019, while Gavi came through the club’s famed La Masia academy after joining from Real Betis in 2015. Both have grown into some of the most talented young midfielders in Europe.
Additionally, Barcelona are reportedly in talks to extend the contracts of other key players, including Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong. Securing these extensions is part of the club’s broader strategy to maintain stability and ensure its core players remain integral to future success.
