Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón has hinted at the possibility of extending Antony's loan from Manchester United beyond this season, citing strong relations with the club and player after the Brazilian’s impressive performances.
Antony, currently on loan at Real Betis from Manchester United, could extend his stay in Seville beyond the end of the season, according to the club's CEO Ramón Alarcón. Despite there being no purchase option included in the original loan deal, Betis is open to negotiating the winger's continued presence after his strong start with the Verdiblancos.
The Brazilian winger made an instant impact, scoring his first goal for Betis in last Saturday’s victory over Celta Vigo, with a spectacular strike from inside the box that opened the scoring. Antony had also impressed on his debut against Athletic Club, where his shot led to Isco's winning goal.
When asked directly about the possibility of Antony staying beyond June 30, Alarcón responded optimistically in an interview with Cadena SER:
"I believe so. The other day, the CEO of Manchester United called me. We send them videos and weekly updates on the player to show that we're taking good care of their asset. There's a great relationship between us, Manchester United, and the player. So yes, it’s a possibility he stays next season—why not?"
Betis confident after winter signings
Alarcón also discussed the club’s transfer strategy, explaining the rationale behind signing Antony as a right-wing option and Cucho Hernández to strengthen the center-forward position.
"We were told the priority was a right winger, followed by a striker, and we fulfilled those needs. Things can always be improved, but we’re excited and reasonably satisfied with how the winter transfer window ended," he noted.
Betis maximizes wage budget
The Betis CEO revealed that the club has nearly exhausted its wage limit following the January signings.
"We’ve left just €48,000 under our squad budget of €108 million. Betis is committed to spending every possible cent on improving the squad. The club’s leaders (Ángel Haro and José Miguel López Catalán) live this intensely and always aim to strengthen the team," Alarcón concluded.
Whether Betis can secure Antony’s services beyond the current season may depend on his continued performance and the willingness of Manchester United to negotiate a new deal.
