Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María could reunite in Rosario, where fans are hoping to see the legendary duo in Central's colours before retirement.
Excitement is growing in Rosario, Argentina, amid rumours that Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María could return home to play their final games together in the city where their journeys began.
The possibility of such a reunion was discussed by Emiliano Vecchio, a 36-year-old midfielder and club icon of Rosario Central, in an interview with TNT Sports. Vecchio shed light on Di María’s connection to the club and the strong emotional pull that could bring him back.
“When it comes to Messi, I can’t speak because I don’t know the situation. But Di María loves Rosario. This club gave him everything, and everything being said about his return is true. His father has been very involved in the process,” Vecchio explained.
He then praised both players, making a clear distinction between greatness and impact.
“The greatest Argentine player of all time is Lionel Messi, but the most decisive is Di María — because of the goals he scored in finals. Both are legends, and of course I’d love to see them here,” he said.
“Rosario is getting ready to welcome Ánhelito. But it’s his decision. He’s earned that right. If he wants to be here, he will be. If not, we must respect his choice. But if he comes, it will be magical for us.”
Di María’s contract with Benfica expires at the end of the season, and his future remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Messi is under contract with Inter Miami until December 31, 2024.
Fans in Rosario are now daring to dream — and hoping for a footballing fairytale.
