Valencia is set to appoint Carlos Corberán as their new head coach, agreeing on a €2.4M deal with West Brom. The move awaits final approval from the English club’s owners.
Valencia CF is on the brink of securing Carlos Corberán as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Rubén Baraja on Monday afternoon. Negotiations with West Bromwich Albion, where Corberán is currently under contract, have nearly concluded, with the Spanish club agreeing to pay a sum close to the coach’s €2.4M release clause.
The deal now hinges on the approval of the American fund that owns the English Championship club. Valencia has already reached a preliminary agreement with both the club and the coach, and the deal could be finalized as early as tomorrow. Meanwhile, the club is also working on reaching a severance agreement with Baraja.
Corberán, aged 41, is viewed as a long-term investment by Valencia, who are offering him a contract for the remainder of this season plus two additional years. Despite the challenges facing the team, Corberán is reportedly excited about returning to Valencia, a club he holds dear.
The Spanish coach joined West Brom in 2022 and guided them to the playoff semifinals for Premier League promotion last season. Known for the energy and enthusiasm he brings to his teams, Corberán’s leadership is expected to rejuvenate a Valencia squad currently struggling in La Liga.
Valencia’s management hopes that by investing significantly in Corberán, his appointment will be seen as a long-term solution rather than a quick fix to avoid relegation. His arrival is seen as a boost of adrenaline for a club in desperate need of direction.
