Vitinha was named UEFA's official Player of the Match, but the PSG midfielder insists Gianluigi Donnarumma was more deserving of the honor.
Vitinha was named Player of the Match by UEFA after Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League semi-final victory, but the Portuguese midfielder believes the award should have gone to someone else — his teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma.
UEFA’s technical panel praised the 25-year-old for his complete midfield performance, stating: “Vitinha was a key player in building attacks. He gave the team balance, ran forward and tried to get behind the defenders. He worked hard to win the ball, was always well positioned to protect the defence and offer himself.”
Vitinha, who joined PSG from Porto in 2022, was humble after the match. “This is a great evening for us!” he said. “We had the ball for most of the match, we adapted well to different situations, and we defended and attacked with intensity.”
Despite being awarded the trophy, Vitinha posed for a photo with Donnarumma and handed the award to the Italian goalkeeper, declaring: “This is the real MVP!”
Donnarumma made several crucial saves during the match, helping PSG secure the advantage ahead of the second leg. His performance earned widespread praise from fans and pundits, even if UEFA’s official nod went to his midfield teammate.
