A festive pre-Christmas party at Lecce, the Italian Serie A club, spiraled out of control when some players left the event and caused havoc on the roads.
Italian media report multiple traffic violations committed by players, leading to police intervention and an arrest.
The most notable incident involved French defender Andy Pelmard, who is on loan at Lecce from Clermont. Pelmard was caught driving at excessive speed and ignored police attempts to stop him. After a pursuit, police successfully stopped and arrested the 23-year-old, who previously played for Basel and Nice.
Pelmard’s driver’s license has been revoked, and legal proceedings are underway. Lecce has since suspended the player, with further disciplinary actions expected. The club has not yet commented on the incident.
While December is traditionally a time for celebration, the chaotic aftermath of this gathering has cast a shadow over Lecce’s festivities, with fans and management alike expressing disappointment at the players’ behavior.
