Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of Real Madrid, addressed the media ahead of the European Super Cup final against Atalanta, stressing the team's strong motivation to secure the first title of the season.
Real Madrid, aiming for their sixth Super Cup victory, faces a formidable challenge in Atalanta, the Europa League champions, known for their resilience and tactical discipline.
Ancelotti expressed confidence in his team's preparation, stating, "The team arrives with all the illusion and all the desire. It's going to be a very demanding season and it can also be very successful. The team is well and motivated to play a good game." The Italian coach acknowledged the tough task ahead, particularly against a well-drilled side led by his old friend, Gian Piero Gasperini. "He deserves to be here. His work is extraordinary, the team and his coach. Gasperini is a friend. It will be tough," Ancelotti noted.
One of the key topics discussed was the condition of Kylian Mbappe, who joined the squad's pre-season preparations on August 7th. Ancelotti assured that the French forward is in good shape and ready to contribute.
"He has arrived well. We haven't had time, but we are very good, and he has arrived in good shape. Everyone who is here can play," Ancelotti confirmed. Regarding potential penalty takers, he added, "Mbappe is a great penalty taker. Bellingham, Valverde? We have a lot of penalty takers. You have to choose one who starts the game."
In a particularly telling moment, Ancelotti emphasized the importance of team unity and downplayed the notion of individual stardom within the squad. "Very healthy, very clean," Ancelotti said of the dressing room atmosphere.
"Largely due to the presence of players who are here more like Carvajal, Modric, Kroos, Valverde or others who were here like Nacho or Kroos. There are no princes or kings, there is a group of players who have been able to put their quality at the service of the team. That's the same thing we want to achieve this season."
As Real Madrid prepares for the European Super Cup final, Ancelotti’s focus on collective strength and humility will be key to overcoming the challenges ahead. With the squad’s quality and cohesion, the Spanish giants are well-equipped to start the season with a significant victory.
