Scott McTominay has become something of a sensation in Naples. Written off by many when he left Manchester United, the Scottish midfielder is now one of Serie A’s most decisive players—and Napoli’s unexpected title weapon.
Napoli beat Monza 1-0 on Sunday, and once again it was McTominay who made the difference. His goal secured all three points and kept the reigning champions neck and neck with Inter Milan at the top of the table—though Inter have a game in hand.
McTominay has now scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances for Napoli. Crucially, he’s scored six times when the score was 0-0, making him one of the most clutch performers in the league.
For context, the Scot only scored 29 goals in 255 appearances during his entire time at Manchester United. In Naples, he’s found a new rhythm, a new role—and a new wave of admiration.
In Italy, fans adore his energy, movement, and knack for arriving at the right place at the right time. And now, reports suggest that even Inter Milan—Napoli’s title rivals—have taken notice of McTominay’s form and are keeping tabs on his situation.
With Napoli's remaining matches coming against Torino, Lecce, Genoa, Parma, and Cagliari, McTominay’s form could be the deciding factor in the Scudetto race. If he continues at this level, his debut Serie A season may finish with a league title—and a place in Napoli folklore.
