The Dutch midfielder, who shared the pitch with Messi during their time at Barcelona, described the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner as the best in every aspect of the game.
Speaking to Voetbal International, De Jong said: "I’ve never seen such a big difference between one player and the rest. Whatever we did in training, Messi was the best, always."
Messi’s journey to football immortality began at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, where he developed into one of the greatest players of all time. During his time at Camp Nou, Messi shattered countless records and won every major trophy available. After leaving Barcelona in 2021 for Paris Saint-Germain, Messi moved to Inter Miami in 2023, where he continued to shine, earning MVP honors in the 2024 MLS season.
