Raphinha has surpassed Lionel Messi with 20 Champions League goal contributions this season and is just one away from Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.
Raphinha is enjoying a sensational season with Barcelona, breaking records and drawing comparisons with some of football’s biggest names. Under Hansi Flick, the Brazilian winger has flourished, contributing 20 goals and assists in the Champions League this season — more than Lionel Messi ever managed in a single campaign.
With his current tally, Raphinha has already matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s second-best Champions League season, set in 2017/18. Now, he is just one goal or assist away from equalling Ronaldo’s all-time record of 21 goal contributions in a single Champions League campaign, set in the 2013/14 season.
“What Raphinha is achieving is phenomenal,” said coach Hansi Flick. “He’s been decisive in the big moments and his work ethic inspires the entire team.”
Barcelona will have at least one more game — the semi-final second leg against Inter — and potentially the final if they advance, giving Raphinha opportunities to set a new benchmark in Europe’s premier competition.
Some observers point out that the revamped Champions League format, which includes two extra group-stage matches compared to 2014, has offered modern players more chances to accumulate stats. Nonetheless, Raphinha’s consistency and impact remain exceptional.
Beyond Europe, the 28-year-old is also shining domestically. With Barcelona leading the La Liga title race, Raphinha could be on course for a memorable double triumph this season.
