Lamine Yamal is participating in the Euro in Germany with the Spanish national team, he has not neglected his school obligations and has announced that he has passed his high school exams.
The sixteen-year-old Yamal, who has broken into the starting lineups of both Barcelona and the Spanish national team this season, became the youngest player to appear at the European Championship in Spain's opening match against Croatia.
"I passed my exams and now I have my ESO degree," Yamal told the Spanish radio station Onda Cero. "The last grades I saw? To be honest, I saw them on my phone, and it said I passed, so I just closed the app, called my mom, and told her."
Spain is one of the favorites after becoming the only team to win all three matches in the group stage, defeating defending champions Italy and Croatia. In the round of 16, they play against Georgia and could face hosts Germany in the quarterfinals.
"Everything we did in the group stage will be worthless if we get knocked out on Sunday. We've already played against them in the qualifiers, but we know it won't be the same game," added Yamal.
As Spain seeks a record fourth title at the Euros, Yamal will hope to go all the way, with his 17th birthday falling just before the final.
