Barcelona's young defender Pau Cubarsí revealed his admiration for Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez, stating he'd love the Argentine striker as a new signing at Camp Nou.
Barcelona's promising young defender Pau Cubarsí has openly expressed his admiration for Julián Álvarez, naming the Argentine striker as the ideal reinforcement for his club.
Álvarez has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s elite forwards after joining Atlético Madrid, delivering outstanding performances in just his first half-season in La Liga. The Argentine striker’s impressive goalscoring and influential displays have earned him widespread acclaim, even among his opponents.
Ahead of this Sunday’s high-stakes match between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium, Cubarsí didn't hesitate when asked which player he would sign for Barça, identifying Álvarez as his top choice.
The promising 19-year-old centre-back was clear when asked by Mundo Deportivo: "If I could sign just one player, it would be Julián Álvarez."
Cubarsí, widely regarded as one of Spanish football’s brightest defensive talents and a potential long-term star for both club and country, also showed his strong bond with Barcelona, declaring a desire to remain at the club throughout his entire career.
The admiration for Argentine talent didn't stop there, as Cubarsí named Lionel Messi as the footballer he'd choose to be if he could. He also identified Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, alongside Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, as top players outside Barcelona.
Interestingly, Álvarez was also linked to a future at Barcelona recently by artificial intelligence projections. Transfermarkt’s AI simulation predicted that Álvarez would win the Ballon d’Or in 2031, doing so as a Barcelona player rather than at Atlético Madrid.
Álvarez, now firmly established in Europe, will likely continue to attract interest from the continent’s elite, especially with endorsements from rivals such as Cubarsí.
