San Lorenzo’s Iker Muniain has suggested former Real Madrid star Guti as a candidate for the head coach position following Leandro Romagnoli’s resignation.
After the resignation of Leandro Romagnoli, San Lorenzo is on the hunt for a new head coach. According to TyC Sports, current player Iker Muniain has recommended Guti—the former Real Madrid midfielder and manager—as a potential candidate for the position. Muniain, who joined the Argentine club just a few months ago, was reportedly asked by the club’s management for his input on the search.
Romagnoli stepped down after a tough loss to Godoy Cruz, which was marked by an incident in which Muniain was designated to take a penalty but Francisco Fydriszewski disobeyed the coach’s orders, took the shot himself, and missed, leading to San Lorenzo’s defeat.
Guti has been away from coaching since 2020, with his last role being at Almería, where he managed 22 games, achieving nine wins, five draws, and eight losses. He previously served as an assistant coach at Besiktas under Şenol Güneş and worked with Real Madrid’s youth academy.
San Lorenzo is considering other candidates as well, including Sebastián Méndez and Lucas Pusineri, both former players for the club, and Miguel Ángel Russo, the former coach of Rosario Central.
