Barcelona’s Dani Olmo and Pau Victor granted temporary eligibility by CSD to play, pending the resolution of their registration issues.
In a significant development, the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) has announced that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor will be allowed to play for Barcelona in the second half of the season. While their registration issue remains unresolved, the players have been granted temporary eligibility to represent the Catalan club during the ongoing proceedings.
The CSD justified its decision by citing the potential financial and sporting risks for both the club and the players, as well as the broader implications for Spanish football.
"Without this temporary solution, Barcelona could face severe financial and sporting consequences, and the players’ careers would be unfairly disrupted. Additionally, such a situation could harm the interests of Spanish domestic competitions and the national team," the CSD statement read.
While this ruling comes as a relief for Barcelona and its president Joan Laporta, it has sparked criticism from fans of other clubs. Many question whether the same decision would have been made for a smaller club or players without commercial appeal or ties to the Spanish national team. Critics also speculate how La Liga president Javier Tebas, a frequent critic of Barcelona, will respond.
For now, Laporta is celebrating, as Olmo and Victor’s participation provides a boost to Barcelona’s squad for the remainder of the season. The temporary ruling allows the players to compete immediately, including in the Spanish Supercopa, where Barcelona is set to face tough competition.
The case, however, remains unresolved, and its final outcome could still have broader implications for Barcelona and La Liga.
